About ShopAppDB
An independent, data-ranked index of 32,959 Shopify apps — where the numbers come from and the rule behind every list.
What ShopAppDB is
ShopAppDB is an independent index of the Shopify App Store. It records every public listing's rating, review count, pricing model, categories and developer, keeps a history of how those numbers move, and turns that into ranked lists, buyer's guides, alternatives pages and trend reports. It is not affiliated with Shopify.
Where the data comes from
Everything on the site is read from public Shopify App Store listing pages and refreshed on a weekly cycle, with a rolling re-scrape so the whole catalog is revisited regularly. Ratings and review counts are the App Store's own figures at the time of the last visit; we do not collect reviews ourselves or adjust the numbers. Each app page shows when its data was last updated and, where we have enough history, how its reviews have moved over time.
How rankings work
Every list on the site is produced by a stated rule and nothing else. The main leaderboard sorts by total review count; the highest-rated board applies a minimum review count and then sorts by rating; category and subcategory pages sort by rating and then review count; the buyer's guides sort by review count among apps rated 4.5 or higher that carry the guide's Shopify subcategory tag. Because developers tag an app with several subcategories, a guide may also exclude apps listed under an unrelated subcategory or apps whose own name or description says they do a different job — page builders tagged as upsell apps, review apps tagged as SEO apps — and when it does, the exact exclusion is printed under the list. Alternatives are the top apps in the same category, ranked the same way. There is no editorial score, no hidden weighting, no per-app exceptions and no paid ranking.
Featured and Sponsored
Two kinds of placement sit outside the rankings and are labelled wherever they appear. Featured apps are our own: the team behind ShopAppDB also builds PriceGlow, JourneyGlow and StockGlow, and we show them as editor's picks with a Featured badge rather than pretending they arrived there by the data. Sponsored placements are paid, time-boxed and marked Sponsored; they never change an app's position in any ranked list. Details for advertisers are on the advertise page.
Corrections and contact
If a listing is wrong, missing, or shows stale data, or if you are a developer who wants an app updated sooner than the next scheduled visit, email [email protected] and include the App Store URL. Merchants can also subscribe on any app page to be emailed when that app's rating or reviews change.
